We love seafood. First and foremost, seafood is delicious and amazingly versatile. Secondly, fish and shellfish are excellent sources of protein, vitamins and minerals minus the saturated fats you get from eating most meats. But you already know this.
We love seafood most of all because we just can't imagine what the world would be like without it. Pollution and over-fishing has taken its toil on the supply of one of nature's greatest gifts and we need to protect and nurture what's left.
That's why we serve "sustainable" seafood and why we support the fishermen and suppliers who share our vision of a future with an increasing, rather than declining stock of seafood.
Our mission is to create and serve wonderful seafood dishes along with seasonal, organic vegetables from local farmers, great cheeses, unbelievably good mushrooms, fabulous wines and the best cocktails in a spacious, comfortable environment with friendly and attentive (but not intrusive) service.
When you arrive at Sea Salt one of the first decisions you'll need to make is where to sit. We are fortunate to have an unusual number of open and semi-private spaces, each with their own unique ambience.
There's the front bay windows, a large open space on both sides of our restaurant, a happening bar in the middle with plenty of comfortable bar stools, little alcoves here and there, the back counter where you can watch the chef and his energetic crew as they prepare the dishes, an enclosed patio in the back and seating in our beautiful garden. (see photos below)
Once you're settled, you can relax, examine the extensive menu, order one of our house cocktails (the Garden Gimlet is very popular) or a glass of wine and perhaps some raw oysters or one of our many small plates, talk to your friend or friends, and consider what you might have for a main course.
Our Chef, Thomas Weibull, is determined to serve consistently delectable fish and shellfish dishes and yes, he also creates some wonderful plates for vegetarians and people who prefer meat. Executive Chef at the exclusive San Francisco French seafood bistro Plouf for seven years, Tom's resume includes stents at Aqua, Rubicon and One Market.
He says, "my forte is seafood and I love it when we are really busy. I thrive in a state of controlled chaos." Getting each and every dish exactly perfect and out on time is something his kitchen strives for.
We like to think of ourselves as both a neighborhood and a destination restaurant. All of our many regular customers, whether they live down the street or in Sausalito or Walnut Creek are our friends and neighbors. If you haven't experienced Sea Salt yet, we hope to see you soon.
